1972

Vidya Silpa Commences manufacture of laboratory equipment

1975

Becomes manufacturer of choice for laboratory equipment in Sri Lanka, supplying 60% of requirement

1977

Obtains first loan funds from DFCC bank – starting a relationship that is continued to-date

1979

Introduces Solar Photovoltaic Technology to Sri Lanka

1983

Builds first mini hydro plant for tea estates in Sri Lanka

1985

Designs and Builds the “MINILAB” – a complete packaged laboratory for rural schools

1987

Featured in Rolex Awards for Enterprise for third world entrepreneurship

1988

Undertakes study on Wind resource for electricity generation in the Central mountain region of Sri Lanka

1993

Commences construction of Dick Oya SHP – Sri Lanka’s first private power station feeding into the National Grid.

1996

Commissions the Dick Oya project supplying energy into the National Grid

1997

Commences work on the first EPC contract for a private power plant with the 3.2 MW Bambarabotu Oya project.

1999

Commences work on the Way Ganga Hydro Project – Sri Lanka’s largest small hydro project

2003

VSHydro established to take over hydropower related activities from Vidya Silpa

2004

Commences manufacture of plant components, interfacing and procuring of Individual components as per requirements

2006

Completes own power plants Kadawala 1, Kadawala 2 and Blackwater.

2007

Establishes VSTurbo – to manufacture electro-mechanical equipment for hydro power projects. Commences overseas work in Uganda with the Mpanga Hydropower project in Uganda .

2009

Commissions first self made hydropower plant at Weli Oya. Establishes VS Information Systems (VSIS) – a separate subsidiary engaged in the IT sector
